Welcome from the Academic Dean
Dear HCCT Student:
Warmest greeting in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ! As Academic Dean of Harnett County College of Theology, I personally welcome you! Today you are beginning a significant educational journey that will provide you with keen insight into God’s Word, motivation to minister to those in need, and renewed confidence in the truth of God’s reality in history and in the Christian walk.
To seek and receive an advanced degree is an admirable goal. I believe you have made a good decision, which will have many positive ramifications in your life and ministry. In order to succeed in your pursuit of this worthy goal, let me quickly draw out a road map for success in your Harnett County College of Theology program.
The most vital component that I cannot stress enough to you is self-discipline. The Apostle Paul names this as one of the spiritual fruits that all Christians are empowered by the Holy Spirit to exercise (Gal. 5:23). What will you do on Saturday night, when the sermon or Sunday School lesson is finished: watch T.V. or study the bible? To be sure, you will not have to read Theology or Church History every Saturday night while seeking your degree. However, you will need to exercise a good deal of self-discipline and consistency in order to complete your degree. A second vital component is self-motivation. The successful student at HCCT will be able to motivate himself or herself to work on, read, develop, and think over important study materials during his or her free “thinking time.”One must motivate oneself to use every opportunity to develop ideas and think deeply about one’s faith and its vital relevance to academic study and everyday living.
With these components in hand, you will succeed! Please remember that we are here to help you. The HCCT Academic and Administrative offices can be reached during the day, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you have any questions or concerns you may reach me at 910-892-3410 or 910-897-8020. Please write down this number, and use it when questions arise. You may email me at firstname.lastname@example.org . May God bless you as you begin today to press on toward degree completion, and as you pursue God’s perfect will in your life? May He give you strength and encouragement!
Sincerely in Christ
